Our top tips to consider when selecting your real estate agent.

When selling your home or offloading an investment it is extremely important to pick the right real estate agent for the job.

Lots of vendors have established lifelong partnerships with their agent and so could you as long as you select an agent that has your best interest at heart. Pick someone you are comfortable with and who will treat you, your family and your property with respect and care.

Our sales agent, Izak van Niekerk, has put together our 5 top tips for selecting your real estate partner.

1. Meet With Multiple Agents

Book in a number of appraisals for your home. This will give you the opportunity to meet the individual, ask questions and get a broader understanding of the true value of your home.

2. Service Over Commission

Do not select your agent based on commission rates alone. Someone offering their services at a cut price rate will more than likely give you a sub-par service. On the other hand, paying over the odds does not guarantee a superior service either. Pick someone who understands your needs an provides you with a service that satisfies your expectations.

3. Marketing Is Key

You cannot sell what you cannot see. If an agent does not spend a good amount of time discussing the  marketing strategy with you, you should walk away. And anyone offering free marketing is more than likely to give your property minimal exposure to the market. Free marketing does not exist, Visibility is everything and you only have a short period of time to impress the market.

4. Experience vs Motivation

Allot of agents will tell you about their experience, which is great. But are they motivated? Experience means nothing if your agent is not motivated. Complacency sinks in quickly with a lot of agent and your property just becomes another listing in the stock pot. Make sure your agent is driven and hungry. We have seen inexperienced agents achieve great success because they are extremely motivated.

5. It's All About The Relationship

Most importantly, building a good relationship with your agent is key. Make sure you trust them and are comfortable with their advice and guidance. It could be a partnership for life and someone you rely on for future advice.

Always putting you first.
